Ships, treasure and everything in between
Pirate is a theme rather than a way of playing, and the shelf is as wide as the theme. The naval games are the core: steer a ship, angle the cannons, sink the other one before it sinks you, sometimes with a fleet to upgrade between fights. The treasure games are platformers and top-down adventures where a map with an X leads through caves and jungles, with the occasional sword fight. Below deck the shelf turns quiet: hidden-object cabins, escape-the-brig puzzles and pirate solitaire.
The children's end has pirate dress-up, coloring and a lot of merge and match boards with barrels and parrots for pieces. The adventure without the eyepatch is under adventure games; the aiming and firing end of the ship battles overlaps with shooting games; the cabin searches belong with the rest of the hidden object games hub.
At the wheel or on the deck
Ship battles are aim-and-fire games: on a keyboard the arrows steer and a key or a mouse click fires a broadside, on a phone a drag steers and a tap fires, and the better titles show the arc of the shot. Platform treasure hunts want the usual arrows and jump, which on touch means on-screen buttons — workable on a tablet, cramped on a small phone. The puzzle and idle games are tap-only and feel native on any screen.
Idle pirate games deserve a note: they keep earning while the tab is closed and save to the browser, so clearing site data resets a fleet. Nothing on the shelf needs an install or a login. Expect the ship games to be landscape and the puzzles to be portrait or either, and expect cartoon rather than realism almost everywhere — the shelf is drawn for fun, not for history.
Who the shelf suits
The theme lands with children first — the costume, the parrot, the treasure map — and the dress-up, coloring and match titles are built for them, with the rest of that audience under dress-up games and match-three games. The ship battles suit players who like a slower, more tactical shooter, and the treasure platformers suit anyone who enjoys exploring a level more than finishing it fast.
Idle fleets are the low-effort option, closer to the idle games hub than to anything nautical. Players who want the stranded-on-an-island part of the pirate story, building shelter and rationing water, will find it under survival games. Choosing by mood works too: ships for tension, treasure for exploring, cabins for thinking, fleets for patience, and costumes for the youngest crew.
Are pirate games for children?

Many are, and the shelf is mostly cartoon: dress-up, coloring, merge and match titles have nothing to worry about. The ship battles and sword-fighting adventures involve cannon fire and cartoon combat rather than blood, and their own pages say when a game is more than that.
Can I play pirate ship battles on my phone?

Yes. Steering by drag and firing by tap works well on a screen, and most naval games are landscape titles that fit a phone held sideways. The platform treasure hunts are the ones that prefer a keyboard.
Is there a pirate game where you build a fleet over time?

The idle and tycoon titles do that: ships earn while you are away, upgrades cost gold, and the fleet grows across days. They save in the browser, so use the same device and do not clear site data if you want the fleet to last.
